Prescriptions
Please follow the guidelines and choose the right option for you.
- Please allow us 48 hours (two working days), to process your prescription request.
- The chemist may require a further 24 hours to process your request.
- If we have not issued you with the medication you are requesting before, then please clearly inform us why you are requesting it and by whom it was previously recommended or prescribed.
- We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.
Ordering a Repeat Prescription
When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
The NHS App
Order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or NHS website, and have them sent to a pharmacy of your choice.
Use Online Services
The easiest way to order your prescription is by using our online services.
Your Local Pharmacy
Pharmacy Ordering / Collection Service
When presenting a repeat prescription request, it should be noted that patients have the option of collecting the prescription from the surgery or have it sent to one of the Chemists at Shepway, Downswood, Grove Green or Penenden Heath.
All requests should be clearly marked with their preference, but please allow an additional 24 hours for the above.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
In Person
When coming to the surgery to order a prescription, please ensure that you know exactly what medications you need.
Please do not ask the receptionist to look this information up for you or assume that staff will be aware of your needs.
By Post
If you wish to have your prescription posted to you then please supply a stamped, addressed envelope and mark your request clearly. Please allow for postal delays.
If you need to have your medication delivered, you will need to arrange this with the chemist.
If you have been issued with one, please use your repeat prescription request slip to re-order your medication. If you do not have one, then please write your request clearly on a piece of paper along with your name, telephone number and date of birth.
Questions About Your Prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription, please contact us.
Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.
Please visit the NHS website for the latest Prescription Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
